Feasibility Study

ACT's AIMS

Why do we want a new performance venue and community facility?

Anticipated Facilities in New Venue

Thornbury, with its surrounding area, has a wealth of artistic talent that deserves a fine centre for performances and exhibitions. There are many groups in all branches of the arts, which perform to a high standard and attract enthusiastic support. Several of the groups have received awards for their performances. Also, existing and new community user groups, as well as members of the community generally, deserve substantially improved facilities. Our aim is to provide a new hall, museum and theatre to support everyone's needs, extending well into the future.
On the professional side Thornbury Arts Festival has produced a 10 day celebration of the arts for many years. Each year there are several performances which are sold out. There would be room for more professional groups and artistes to entertain local people throughout the year.
ACT would introduce a contemporary venue for better display of local talent. Our vision includes a theatre, capable of supporting small and large audiences (up to 500), a cinema, a recording studio, rehearsals, classes, workshops and exhibitions. It will be an energetic venue for the whole community. A café would be available throughout the day, offering people the opportunity to relax and absorb the atmosphere, take note of all the facilities, productions, events, displays and exhibitions that will be going on at the centre. The venue would support the needs of amateur groups as well as professional touring groups and this would be essential for the long term survival of a successful community based facility.
