ACT
is working with the Armstrong Hall Trust.
ACT is very pleased to announce that the ACT organisation/charity is now working closely with the Trustees of the Armstrong Hall Trust, to research the possibilities of developing the existing Armstrong Hall Complex in Thornbury. This is an exciting stage for the ACT project and we are delighted to be working so closely with the Trustees. The Armstrong Hall has been a great asset for the town over the years. However, it was built in the 1970s, and, as time has moved on, it no longer fulfils the demanding needs of the town and surrounding area. A working group has been set up and the following joint statement has been printed in the press and local publications: Joint press release from Armstrong Hall Trust and Arts and Community in Thornbury December 2010
The Armstrong Hall Trust and ACT (Arts and Community in Thornbury) have confirmed that they have formed a joint working group to consider the practical and financial feasibilities of building a new theatre within the Armstrong Hall complex.
The working group will investigate how the Armstrong Hall complex, which was built in the 1970s, can be used both to support current activities and to create a modern arts and performance centre.
Proposals for such a project would include halls and function rooms, studios, a modern flexible theatre, enhanced cinema facilities and a new home for the Thornbury museum. The aim will be to provide a new sustainable facility that will meet the needs of local communities for many years to come.
Armstrong Hall trustee Clive Parkinson said The facility, which would continue to be part of the Armstrong Hall Trust, will be designed to meet the needs of existing community and amateur groups, and also those of professional companies delivering larger scale productions and events. Adrian Dennis from ACT stated that A new modern centre should be flexible enough to support all kinds of activities, not just the visual and performing arts, but dances, social events, conventions, exhibitions, business meetings, local club needs and much more.
Clearly
such a project would require considerable external funding and time for
planning and other approvals. As part of this process, a financial and
management plan for the new complex will be developed to assess the feasibility
and long term viability of the venture. It is anticipated that this, with
the necessary funding, will take about two years to complete.
In the meantime, the current project of the Armstrong Hall Trust to improve and expand facilities at the back of the Armstrong Hall will continue. This includes work to the changing rooms and new function rooms to replace those in the Bakery Annexe. |
